ICNJ 2024 Spring Workshop
Tuesday, May 7, 2024 (9:30 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
The Changing Climate of Risk
Historically, insurers looked to past events to determine the risk of future damage occurring. Climate change, however, has challenged that standard and insurers are shifting toward using models of future risk to inform premium pricing. In NJ, there have been more than 50 flooding events in every County since 1996, and 2023 was the busiest year for wildfires in over 20 years. With extreme weather being one of the top risks affecting home and commercial properties, how is the insurance market responding? What are the mitigating factors and true resiliency measures that can be taken?
